gothic revival

I have previously declared my love for anything by Ann Demeulemeester and now I must mention another one of my favourites, Riccardo Tisci for Givenchy. Upon searching through images of his past collections, I came across the Givenchy Fall 2008 Ready-to-Wear collection and am now quite obsessed with it. Not only does Tisci reinvent Victorian gothic, he also excels at using a minimal colour palette yet creating such a dynamic impact. The effective use of layering, abstract appliqués of lace, voluminous blouses with high necks, contrasts of matte and shiny, amazing tailored jackets, and impeccable detailing and texturing, all combined are what makes this collection so incredible. The collection has a strong Catholic resonance featured throughout within the detailing of the accessories. I especially admire the head-to-toe looks in white and cream, as the intricate detailing is more pronounced. Tisci successfully manages to make white gothic. I love the dark romantic feel to this collection. I hope you enjoy it as much as I do…
